  27. There are a gazillion different BASIC languages, each with their own
  28. little extensions to make the language more useful, but also serve to
  29. make it virtually impossible to move anything but the most rudimentary
  30. of programs from one platform to another.

  32. I agree with you that Visual Basic is not BASIC, because Visual Basic
  33. is a TOOL and BASIC is a language - but the language Visual Basic uses
  34. is BASIC - just as Delphi is a tool that uses the Pascal language.

  36. No, Visual BASIC is not the same interactive language that was
  37. developed to run on the terminals at Dartmouth. And the Object Pascal
  38. language that Delphi uses is not the same language Wirth used as a
  39. teaching language. Thank God! The language Wirth invented didn't even
  40. have file I/O.
